India-Pakistan Tussle Taken To Oscars; ‘Chhello Show’ Competes With ‘Joyland’ In The Same Category

On Thursday, the Oscar Academy announced the ten categories for the 95th Academy Awards. “Joyland” was selected as one of the 15 films, that ran for Best International Feature Film. Different films from 92 countries are selected in this category. India’s “Last Film Show” has also been nominated in the same category. In a way, it is being considered as a contest between India and Pakistan. Considering the dispute between the two countries, this Oscar nomination has raised the excitement level among the public.
While this is the first film from Pakistan to be nominated for an Oscar. At the same time, a film has been nominated from India after 20 years. Earlier, the Aamir Khan film “Lagaan” was nominated for the Oscars, from India. Apart from “Last Film Show,” India’s “RRR” has also joined the Oscar race. The song, Nattu-Nattu, from this film has been nominated for the Best Original Song category.
“Joyland” was banned
“Joyland” has already faced a ban in Pakistan before its release. It was banned citing highly objectionable scenes in the film, about which there was a lot of uproar. But later, this ban had been lifted. According to the reports, the film is based on same-sex relationships, due to which questions were raised in Pakistan. The film was released in Pakistan on November 19. However, before that, “Joyland” had already been shown on many international platforms. The film had also received a standing ovation for a record ten minutes.
Whereas, the Indian film “Last Film Show” is the story of a child named Samay, who is from Kathiawar, Gujarat, and who is very fond of cinema. The film was released in India on October 14. Whereas in the USA, it was shown on December 2. The film is also available on the streaming platform, Netflix. This film is directed by Pan Nalin.

The critically acclaimed film “Joyland” follows a patriarchal family who yearn for the birth of a child to continue the family line, while their youngest son secretly joins an erotic dance theatre and falls in love with a trans woman. Ali Junejo, Aleena Khan, Rasti Faruq, Salman Pirzada, and Sohail Samir are part of the lead cast in the film, along with Sania Saeed. It is produced by Apoorva Guru Charan, Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, and Lauren Mann.
Talking about “Last Film Show,” it is a Gujarati language film, a coming-of-age drama directed by Pan Nalin. The film follows nine-year-old Samay (Bhavin Rabari) from Chalala, a village in Saurashtra, Gujarat. He spends the entire summer watching movies, which leaves him completely enthralled by the art of filmmaking. It stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, and Paresh Mehta in key roles.
