Karan Johar says he doesn’t want to direct a Hollywood film and “hopes to meet Meryl Streep someday.” The idea for Karan Johar to helm a Hollywood production has been turned down. During the discussion, Karan discussed whether he would think about going to Hollywood to direct films.
Karan Johar on the idea of directing a Hollywood film
Karan Johar was recently asked about his desire to direct films in Hollywood during an interview with Variety. The director, though, acknowledged that he is not overly fond of the concept. Says he, “I don’t need to make an English film to (win the Variety Vanguard Award.) It would be amazing to walk the Academy Awards red carpet, but I would like for it to be with a Hindi-language film.”
Karan also recalled making frequent trips to Los Angeles after filming My Name Is Khan in the United States. He had conversations with a few production companies, but in the end he decided he wanted to concentrate on making more Indian films. He declared, “It took a couple of trips to Los Angeles to realize that it is all wonderful and you have a lot of meetings, but my heart is in my country and my cinema is in my heart. I don’t want to leave that. I don’t want to make films without the language that’s raised me.”
He then expressed his desire to meet Meryl Streep one day. He went on to talk about the same. My bucket list consists of just that one item. Heaven is my destination if only I could spend an hour with her. It is really amazing that she can still be relevant in any decade.
On the professional front, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, was recently directed by Karan Johar. The film received positive reviews from critics and viewers alike and did well at the box office. This film, which coincided with his 25th year as a director, was his comeback to directing following the 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Furthermore, Karan Johar has a diverse range of production projects in the works, including collaborations with Sidharth Malhotra, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and a biopic on C Sankaran Nair. KJo recently attended the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, which screened the film Kill.
