‘Living In Bubble’: Kareena Kapoor Faces Backlash For Suggesting — ‘Don’t Look For Luxury In Mansions’
Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has found herself at the center of controversy following her endorsement of a quote attributed to veteran Hollywood filmmaker Clint Eastwood. The quote, shared on her Instagram Stories, downplays the importance of material wealth, instead emphasising the value of simple joys in life. This has sparked criticism from social media users who accused the actress of being out of touch with reality.
The quote, reportedly from the 94-year-old Eastwood, reads: “Don’t look for luxury in watches or bracelets, don’t look for it in mansions or sailboats; luxury is laughter and friends, luxury is not being sick, luxury is the rain on your face, and luxury is hugs and kisses.
Don’t look for luxury in stores or in gifts, don’t look for it in parties or events. Luxury is that people love you, luxury is that they respect you, luxury is that your parents live, luxury is being able to play with your grandchildren, luxury is those little things that cannot be bought with money.” Kapoor captioned the post with, “Read it again and again,” along with a red heart emoji.
However, the post quickly drew ire online, with many calling out Kapoor for what they perceived as hypocrisy. A Reddit user shared a screenshot of Kapoor’s post and commented, “Made me laugh. People living in luxury talking about how luxury is not the most important thing in life.” Others echoed this sentiment, criticising the wealthy for preaching about the insignificance of money while living in opulence.
One Redditor pointed out the irony, referencing Kapoor’s privileged lifestyle, including her ownership of the Pataudi Palace and annual vacations to Gstaad. “They live in their own bubble. Take luxury out of their lives then we’ll see,” commented another user.
Despite the backlash, some social media users defended Kapoor, arguing that those who have experienced wealth firsthand are better positioned to understand its limitations.
In her professional life, Kapoor is set to appear in several upcoming films, including The Buckingham Murders, Singham Again, and an untitled project directed by Meghna Gulzar.
