Lockdown 2020: A Pause that was much needed
Last year, a Pandemic happened, which threw the most curved ball that we have ever seen. The covid-19 brought us closer by putting us on social distancing. Before 2020, I think we all took everything for granted, we were running in masses, like a marathon with no finish line. Lockdown gave us a pause, a pause that allowed us to look around and see how far we have come while running, how much we have left behind, or how much we still want This break was a lifetime experience and we all have different opinions about it. . What amazed me the most was how easily we adapted, we made ourselves habituated to running before the lockdown we assumed life is bland without the race but wanted to have a break so badly. So when we finally got that pause., we started missing the rush.
I believe we grow most in pressure, and we have an unsettled mind. our mind is always in search, to do something, to watch, to observe, to seek, and whenever we are not doing anything it makes us feel guilty for being unproductive. This pause made us understand that sometimes doing nothing doesn’t mean a waste of time. The young generation and millennials are the ones who were affected by the pause, one morning the whole world stopped spinning for them, not all don’t stop for anyone. They kept piling up their desires, wishes ad relaxation….forgot to call old parents or that one friend who texted to call her back, to find that old favorite t-shirt, to watch that hyped movie, or just to catch that long lost sleep ….all of it that we were supposed to do on the coming weekend, well that long weekend came, not exactly in the way we wanted. However, nothing ever happens though just the way we want it……
We connected with nature, nature was also found relaxing in this pause, it got rid of the honking and black smoke. We found the time and desire to clean and organize the room we finally had the week-long sleep. We hated the quarantine, whereas the quarantine taught us to be happy about small things. I have never thought that some clouds of rain, the light breeze and a cup of tea can bring so much serene, well I knew it could but before I never had the time to enjoy it.
Well, it’s still not over, we still have a long way to go. we need to understand we might not be able to control the spread of the virus or to find the answer for how effective lockdown was??? At least we have command over ourselves, we are not battery running machines, we can pause, play, or even fast forward, but don’t miss out on life to come first in a race with no finish line.
