Mira’s Persuasion Pays Off: Shahid Kapoor Credits Wife for ‘Kabir Singh’ Success
Shahid Kapoor has admitted he was first hesitant to work with Kabir Singh. However, he finally gave up after much prodding from Mira Rajput, his wife.
Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor, was one of 2019’s most significant successes despite facing widespread backlash for its sexist portrayal of women. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shahid said that his wife, Mira Rajput, was instrumental in convincing him to take on the role of Kabir Singh.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shahid discussed his reluctance to star in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga movie. He explained, “My initial reaction was, ‘no way am I doing this movie.’ This new guy has done an excellent job for a new guy, and that’s why. When you see someone for the first time in front of the camera, no matter who they are, their individuality tends to dissolve into the persona of the role they are portraying. Simply put, you lack a personal connection with them.”
He added, “So your level of acceptance is pretty much total. For the simple reason that this is the first time you’ve seen them, and therefore, everything about them is perfect. But then you find out they have flaws; they actually produce subpar films. It takes a great movie for you to understand why you appreciate that person finally. And I ended my full gyaan (knowledge) by stating, this is my rationale, Mira. No, I’m not interested in seeing the movie. I really shouldn’t make this movie”.
The words of Mira Rajput
He continued by saying what Mira Rajput’s reply was. After five minutes of her staring at me, she finally said, “Just shut up and do it.” This movie is tailor-made for you. When I said, “Really?” she just said, “Yeah.” The public enjoys watching you play both sympathetic and deranged characters in romantic comedies. These have both! ‘Just do it!’ She had such a straightforward way of thinking, and here I had overcomplicated things for myself, Kabir Singh,” he added.
Kabir Singh, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey, was the Hindi version of the film Arjun Reddy. Shahid co-starred in the movie with Kiara Advani. Kabir Singh grossed over 250 crores in India. However, the film received mixed reviews for its celebration of toxic masculinity. In Bloody Daddy, Shahid was last seen. Next, he will co-star with Kriti Sanon in a romantic comedy with an as-yet-unnamed title.
