Nayanthara Faces Legal Trouble: Complaint Filed Against Tamil Film Annapoorani For ‘Promoting Love Jihad’

Mumbai police have filed an FIR against Nayanthara for her recent Tamil film “Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food” for allegedly promoting love jihad. The FIR also mentions that the makers of the movie had included dialogues that “misinterpreted” the Ramayana by Valmiki. According to the film, Lord Rama is called a “meat-eater,” which didn’t go down well with the Hindu community. Ramesh Solanki, former Shiv Sena leader, had lodged the complaint.

Nayanthara’s Film Demeans Lord Rama

Annapoorani, released on December 1 and currently available on Netflix, offends the sentiments of Hindus, per the FIR. Solanki also accused the makers of insulting Lord Rama by calling him a non-vegetarian. Per media sources, the case was filed in Mumbai’s LT Marg police station on January 6. Several problematic themes in the film were mentioned, such as the promotion of love jihad.

Nayanthara in Annapoorani

Ramesh Solanki, the founder of the Hindu IT cell, requested Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the cops to take the necessary action against Nayanthara and the makers. In the report, the OTT platform Netflix India, Naad Sstudios, Trident Arts, and Zee Studios were also added.

Hurting Religious Sentiments

Three main reasons have been quoted in the film, where the “Jawan” actress plays the role of a Hindu temple priest’s daughter Annapoorani. One is that she dreams of becoming a chef, cooks non-veg food, attends Ramzan Iftaar, and offers Namaz. On the other hand, her father cooks Parsad and Blog for the deities at the temple.

The second is that the character of Farhan (played by Jai,) whom the female protagonist loves, convinces Annapoorani to consume meat. Nayanthara also covers her head with a black cloth while preparing biryani. The lady remembers her friend saying that biryani tastes better when you perform Namaz while cooking it.

The final blow came when the Muslim man Farhan reinterpreted the Valmiki Ramayana. He says that Lord Bhagwan Shri Ram, Lakshmana, and Mata Sita used to eat meat. For these cited reasons, Solanki terms the Tamil film anti-Hindu and accuses the makers of trying to corrupt the youth and promote love jihad.

Anti-Hindu Movie

The movie was meant to be a breath of fresh air, with Nayanthara facing obstacles on the way to becoming a successful chef. She battles her orthodox family’s constraints and societal pressures to pursue her culinary dreams. However, the movie and its participants now face legal controversy around interfaith relationships.

Per Solanki’s complaint, at a time when India is rejoicing the Pran Prathista of Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Annapoorani’s content is a big blow. The registered FIR names the lady superstar Nayanthara, director Nilesh Krishnaa, Zee Studios’ Shariq Patel, Netflix India’s Monika Shergil, and producers R Ravindran, Jatin Sethi, and Punit Goenka. The involved parties have not yet made a statement on the issue.
