Perfume Ad Promotes Rape Culture, Priyanka Chopra, Among Others, Gets Furious!

In a country like India where women are still trying to walk shoulder to shoulder with men. While actresses in the industry are trying to fight issues like equal pay and sexual harassment, perfume advertisements have created a ruckus across the country.

The brand of perfume has created such an ad which is bound to be controversial. After seeing this advertisement, many celebrities criticized it on social media and called it promoting rape. Actors like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha and Swara Bhaskar have expressed their opinion about the advertisement.

Actually, there are two ad videos for this perfume brand. The first one is of a girl in a supermarket where four boys are saying behind her, “Hum char ye ek, shot kaun legal?” Then the girl got so scared but when she look at the boys they were talking about the perfume bottle which was the only one left there.

In the second video, 3 boys enter into a room where a couple is already present. Among 3 boys one of them asks shot mara hai? That boy says, “han mara hai” On that, the other boy says ab hamari bari” And the girl here also got scared but here also they were talking about perfume bottles.

Priyanka Chopra said about this ad on Twitter, ‘Shameful and disgusting’. How many levels of approval would have had to be taken for this ad to be flagged…how many people thought it was okay? I am very glad that some people have felt this bad and that this issue has been raised. Strict action should be taken on this.

Farhan Akhtar also took out his anger and said, ‘Call them smelly body sprays or just say ‘gang rape’. Who has allowed this ed to be made by thinking about what and… it’s a shame’.

Richa Chadha also reacted to this. She said, ‘This ad is not an accident. For any ad to become an ad, it has to pass through many levels. Creative, script, agency, client, casting and what not. Does everyone think rape is a joke?’
