Despite being a teetotaler, Chadha ventured into the realm of method acting by experimenting with a bit of gin to enhance her portrayal of the character’s intoxicated kathak dance sequence.
In an interview with Zoom, Chadha candidly shared her experience, stating, “On the first day, I wasn’t getting it, to do the drunk dancing. So, after 30-40 takes, I thought let me have a quarter and see what happens. I did have some gin. I drank a little bit, but it made things worse.” She expressed her desire to maintain precision and grace in her movements, acknowledging the challenge of balancing the portrayal of inebriation with the technical demands of the performance.
Did almost 100 shots for the dance
Reflecting on the process, Chadha admitted, “I was better off pretending to be drunk than actually getting a little tipsy. It is a technical job… I didn’t know I could do this.” The dedication to her craft is evident as she revealed completing 99 takes for the sequence, highlighting the pressure of performing amidst a large audience of extras”, Richa revealed on the Kapil Sharma Show which aired yesterday.
