Ryan Gosling Drops Festive Surprise: New EP featuring Barbie Ballad ‘I’m Just Ken’ for Christmas
On Wednesday, Ryan Gosling, along with collaborators Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, released the I’m Just Ken EP. The EP includes the original Grammy-nominated ‘80s-style power ballad from the movie, titled I’m Just Ken, along with three remixes: the stripped-down I’m Just Ken (In My Feelings Acoustic), the dance floor-ready I’m Just Ken (Purple Disco Machine Remix), and the festive I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie). In the film, Ryan Gosling plays the role of Ken opposite Margot Robbie’s Barbie.

The festive I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie) was released with an official music video, showcasing Gosling, Wyatt, and Ronson working on the holiday remix in a studio adorned with Christmas lights and featuring a live band. The trio engages in banter, with Gosling, in a playful moment, donning sunglasses and explaining that “the world can have Ken’s voice but only Barbie can have his eyes.” The ensemble includes a full band, two cellists, four violinists, and a glockenspiel. Gosling’s vocals, enhanced with reverb, contribute to the triumphant and whimsical reimagining. The song concludes with Gosling wishing, “Merry Christmas, Barbie, wherever you are.”
In July, Ronson, the executive producer of the Barbie soundtrack, shared that he typically contributes music only to film songs. However, with I’m Just Ken, he couldn’t resist including some lyrics that made the final cut, including the memorable chorus, “I’m just Ken, anywhere else I’d be a 10.”
The song “I’m Just Ken” has garnered recognition with nominations in two prestigious awards ceremonies – the 2024 Grammy Awards in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media and the Golden Globe Awards in the category of Best Original Song. This recognition underscores the song’s impact and success in the realm of visual media and original music composition.
