‘Thrown Out Of Vanity Van’: Richa Chadha Says She Faced Discrimination On A Movie Set
Bollywood actress Richa Chadha is one of the best artistes in the industry. She has done some memorable roles on screen . The actress made her debut in the world of acting with Dibakar Banerjee’s film ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ in the year 2008.
Since then, she has garnered accolades for films like’ Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Fukrey’, and ‘Masaan’. Recently, Richa recalled her initial days of her career. She told how she faced discrimination while shooting for her first film.
Richa Chadha on becoming a victim of discrimination
Richa and her actor-husband Ali Fazal has now become producers. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she said that they do not discriminate on their sets. In their case, it doesn’t happen that someone will stay in a lavish hotel and some others will stay in a useless one. She and Ali stays in the same hotel with everyone. The actress said that she gives full space to the actors, be it for workshops or for anything else.
Richa stated, “We are actors ourselves and can understand how discrimination on the set affects one’s morale. It can bring down one’s confidence. So, we have sympathy. This has happened to us in the early days of our career. When one vanity van was shared by 3 people, while the other people on set got a single vanity van.”
Opening up on how she felt discriminated on the set of her debut film ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, the actress shared she used to come straight from college for the shoot. Once, she had 103-104 fever. She was told that the other person would come late. So, till then she can use his vanity van. She got ready and went for the shoot. Behind her back, staff came inside the vanity and threw away all her belongings.
Describing it as ‘terrible’, Richa quoted, “At that time, I did not have my own makeup and hair material. They belonged to the company only. I felt very bad when someone’s lipstick got spoiled, someone’s mirror broke. How could they do this? You can’t do this to anyone,. But these things keep happening.” The actress said that with the advent of social media, one now remains alert before doing such an act.
