Waheeda Rehman Recalls Being Asked To Pack Up After She Refused To Wear Revealing Outfit!

Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman mesmerised the audiences with her stunning looks and finest acting skills. She was the diva of her time. In her long and glorious acting career, the star has worked with some of the most prominent stalwarts of Hindi cinema, including filmmaker, Guru Dutt and superstar, Dev Anand. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Waheeda shared an unheard anecdote from her active days in cinema.

Waheeda Rehman reminisces an old incident

The veteran recollected a moment from the shooting of her film ‘Solva Saal’. She revealed that when she refused to don a revealing costume in a scene, the filmmaker became furious and stalled the filming midway. Waheeda shared her clothes got soaking wet in a particular scene from the film. She was supposed to change them.

However, the actress did did not like the kind of clothes she was given, since they were too transparent. As a result, she did not wear it and came out in an outfit that made her comfortable. This made the director angry to a level that he called for a pack up for that day. Waheeda added: “The filmmaker said this your second or third movie, and it will be your last one because you have too many conditions.”

Furthermore, the 85-year old actress recalled how her co-star Dev took a stand for her and made the director understand her point of view. She quoted: “Dev was sweet. He told the filmmaker that what I was saying was absolutely right. He said that my character is that of shy village girl whose name is Lajwanti. She shouldn’t be wearing revealing clothes in this scene. I was very relieved that Dev was in my corner.”

Waheeda Rehman has done over 90 Hindi films. Some of her classics include ‘Guide’, ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Kagaz Ke Phool’, and ‘Chaudvin Ka Chand’. The actress has received Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian cinema. She also has numerous Filmfare and National Awards to her credit.
