Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan Faces Sexual Harassment Charges, Writes Open Letter Defending Himself

Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is facing allegations of online harassment after a complaint was lodged against him on January 27. The complaint, reportedly filed by actress Manju Warrier, accuses the director of persistent harassment through social media.

Following the complaint, Sasidharan addressed the issue on his Instagram handle, penning an open letter to Warrier. In his statement, he defended himself, claiming that his actions stemmed from concerns for the actress’s safety. He alleged that Warrier was in danger and was being prevented from communicating with him.

Director Defends His Actions

Sasidharan pointed out that a similar case had been filed against him three years ago, which, according to him, had not progressed as no statement was recorded, nor was any evidence presented. He further claimed that his recent revelations included an audio recording of his conversation with Warrier, which he made public.

“The public tried to avoid discussing the audio, but they could not ignore it,” Sasidharan wrote, maintaining that he believed Warrier was unaware of the situation. He alleged that the latest complaint was a deliberate attempt to prevent the actress from making any public statements regarding the matter.

Legal Battle and Filmmaker’s Response

Despite the complaint, Sasidharan stated that he was not afraid of the legal proceedings but was more concerned about Warrier’s continued silence. He urged the media to investigate the truth behind the allegations.

“Now this police case is to ensure that there is no situation where you have to make a public statement or press conference in a way that reveals the truth of things to the public. I’m not afraid of the case,” he wrote in his letter.

Although Sasidharan used the hashtag “#ManjuWarrier” in his social media post, he refrained from explicitly mentioning her name in the letter.

Past Collaboration and Controversies

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan and Manju Warrier previously collaborated on the film A’hr Kayattam. The filmmaker later released the film online for free via Google Drive links, a move that also sparked controversy at the time.
