‘Those Months Were A Nightmare’: TV Producers Sargun Mehta, Ravi Dubey Reveal ₹70 Lakh Loss In Udaariyaan’s Early Days

Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey, the producers behind the hit television show Udaariyaan, recently opened up about their journey into production, revealing the financial and emotional struggles they faced while setting up their production house. In a conversation with Pinkvilla for its Behind The Success segment, the couple shared how they lost ₹70 lakh during the show’s initial phase.

Mehta recalled that she and Dubey ventured into production with no prior experience, relying solely on their passion and vision. She noted that Udaariyaan was a product of their hard work, though Dubey credited her entirely for the effort.

Speaking about the major financial setback, Mehta shared, “During Udaariyaan, we emptied our accounts. While our set was being built, someone committed fraud, and we lost ₹70 lakh. I remember walking out of the set in distress, while Ravi was busy shooting for Matsya Kaand.”

She further revealed how the situation escalated into an intense confrontation with the art director. “I had a huge fight with him, and my security had to hold me back because I was so furious. Our show was set to go on air in just 15 days, and at that moment, the set was nothing but a blank floor,” she said.

The experience left Mehta questioning whether stepping into production was the right decision. She recalled breaking down in the car, overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility. However, Dubey remained composed and reassured her that they would recover from the loss. “Ravi was calm and simply said, ‘Ho gaya na? Nazar utar gayi. Ab kaam karo, dobara kama lenge.’ Those four to five months were a nightmare,” she added.

Despite these challenges, Udaariyaan became a successful show, featuring actors Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Ankit Gupta, Abhishek Kumar, and Isha Malviya. The series, known for its engaging storyline and strong performances, cemented Mehta and Dubey’s reputation as producers.

Their journey highlights the resilience and determination required to succeed in the entertainment industry, proving that setbacks can be stepping stones to greater achievements.
