TV actress Kamya Panjabi has been around in the showbiz for almost two decades now. She has portrayed some memorable characters on screen and seems to be quite content with the TV industry. In times when many film and TV actors are trying to shift their focus to popular space OTT, Kamya holds a different notion.

The actress does not feel the need to do web shows as she is content with TV. In a recent interview, Kamya said that maintaining a distance from OTT is a conscious decision. She also questioned makers of web series for casting actors who don’t know how to perform on screen.

Kamya won’t sacrifice TV for OTT

Reacting to actor Eijaz Khan’s recent comment where he said that it’s quite difficult for TV actors to make a transition to web space, Kamya stated that she is not someone who would be like ‘Oh, I want to get into films or OTT’. She said that she loves television more and that’s her priority. Television is her first love and she is very happy doing it.

“Also, I feel an actor is actor whether he is on small screen or OTT or the big screen. Many big actors reach on sets of TV shows only to promote their web series or films,” added Kamya.

Further in the conversation, Kamya expressed her displeasure at the categorisation of actors based on the mediums or industries they work in. She said that there should not be any difference between TV actors, OTT actors, or even film stars.

Kamya on casting in OTT

Kamya also seemingly took an indirect dig at Sonakshi Sinha’s acting in her debut web show ‘Dahaad’. She called out OTT makers for their casting and selection process. With taking any particular name, Kamya quoted, “Many actors who don’t even know the ‘A’ of acting are seen in web projects. Sorry, but I won’t name them. I recently started watching a web show in which a big personality, the daughter of a great actor made her debut.But I could not move further after one episode because she doesn’t know acting at all. But what can one do? She is the daughter of a veteran after all.”

Kamya asserted that makers cast big names, star kids and established actors only because they want to sell their projects But according to her, there is no point in casting actors with zero talent.

For the unversed, Kamya Panjabi is popular for shows like ‘Banoo Mein Teri…Dulhan’, ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’, ‘Shakti…Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’ and ‘Sanjog’. She was last seen in ‘Neerja- Ek Nayi Pehchaan’.
