Actor Siddharth Apologises For ‘Obscene Remark’ On Saina Nehwal; Says, “You Will Always Be My Champion”

Actor Siddharth issued a clarification after facing massive backlash on social media for making obscene remarks against Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal. He said that he did not mean to insult anyone and there was no objection in his tweet.

Recently, Saina made a tweet on the security lapse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab. Criticising her tweet, the South actor made some obscene remarks, due to which he was getting trolled continuously.

Siddharth wrote, “shuttle cock champion of the world…Thank God we have India’s defenders.”

Following that, users on Twitter started trolling the actor and many celebrities also demanded him to apologise.

As a result, the actor issued an apology on Tuesday and wrote, “Dear Saina, I want to apologise to you for my rude joke that I wrote as a response to a tweet of yours, a few days ago. I may disagree with you on many things but even my disappointment or anger when I read your tweet, cannot justify my tone and words.”

He further mentioned, “If a joke needs to be explained, it’s not even a joke. So I apologise for my joke. I should have emphasised my word choice and humour. Any malicious intent.” I am a staunch feminist supporter myself and I can assure you that there was no gender implied in my tweet and certainly no intention to attack you as a woman.”

“I hope we can put this behind us and that you will accept my letter,” he added.

Siddharth is a well-known face of cinema. He played an important role in the Hindi film ‘Rang De Basanti’. The actor has been targeted earlier due to his many other political statements.
