The film ‘The Kerala Story’ performed well at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews and getting embroiled in religious controversies. There was no impact of any negativity on the film’s earnings. It grossed over Rs 250 crore worldwide. Veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Kamal Haasan called it a ‘propaganda film’. Now, actress Adah Sharma who played the lead role in ‘The Kerala Story’ has reacted to Naseeruddin and Kamal’s comments on her film.
In a recent interview, Adah took a sly dig at the bashing her film received and shared that she feels happy about the freedom of speech in our country. Due to that, a film can be maligned, labelled and ripped apart publicly without even being watched. The actress stated that one can say anything about anyone and live without any harm, which is the beauty of India. People of different ideologies can co-exist.
Adah mentioned that it is wonderful how even after such famous actors made their stance clear about what they thought of the film, the audiences still chose to go to theatres to support a film that stood against terrorism.
‘The Kerala Story’ follows the story of Hindu girls forcefully converted to Islam by a group of extemist Muslim girls posing as their friends. They are later manipulated to join ISIS and end up getting imprisoned in Afghanistan.
After a successful run in theatres, Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’ is now all set to release on the digital platform. Meanwhile, on the work front, Adah is all set to start work in an international production soon. She will play the role of a female superhero in the film.
