Alia Bhatt, an actress, has spoken out about the “casual sexism” she has experienced in the film industry. She is occupied right now with the advertising for her upcoming movie, Darlings. She acknowledged that she was unaware of what was happening when the comments were made, but claimed she afterwards realised that the remarks were sexist.
When a famous person speaks out about experiencing misogyny in the Hindi film industry, it is not news. Actress Alia Bhatt has now spoken out about the “casual misogyny” she has experienced in Bollywood. When she first heard those statements, she claimed she didn’t realise they were sexist, but now that she has given them some thought, she believes they are. She added that she dislikes it when women are forced to hear such “random things like hide your bra or are you PMSing”.

Interacting with Mojo Story, she mentioned, “I think from time to time I have faced that– casual sexism. Many times I would not notice it. When I think back now because I am so much more aware of it, it just makes so much sense as ‘oh my god that was such a sexist comment, or that I was basically a subject of extreme misogyny in that moment. That’s why now I am so much more sensitive. Sometimes my friends go like “what’s wrong with you, why have you become so aggressive?”
Moreover, she took a dig at the people for ‘sexist’ comments and said that “you’re flashing your underwear, I am not saying anything.” “But it’s not about that, just random things like ‘don’t be so sensitive, you’re being so sensitive, are you PMSing. To hell with you, I am not being sensitive, and even if I am PMSing so the hell what? You were born because women were PMSing. It gets me so annoying when people say these random things. It’s just casual. Things like ‘your bra shouldn’t be on a bed, hide the bra.’ Why hide it? It’s clothes, you’re flashing your underwear. I am not saying anything. It’s not like it has happened with me actively, but there is a certain understanding of how you should hide a lot of things as a woman,” she added.
The actress is currently waiting for the premiere of Darlings, her new movie, which will be her first OTT appearance and producer debut. At the moment, she is quite occupied with the film’s publicity. Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma also have important parts in the movie. On August 5, Netflix will make it available.
Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, Alia will appear in Brahmastra, directed by Ayan Mukerji, in addition to Darlings. Along with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, she will also make her Hollywood debut in Heart of Stone.
On the personal front, Alia Bhatt and her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, are currently expecting their first child.
