Critics are targeting Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film “Animal,” featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor, for allegedly promoting toxic masculinity. The filmmaker, previously criticised for problematic male characters in “Arjun Reddy” and “Kabir Singh,” faces renewed scrutiny. Despite achieving blockbuster status, negative reviews persist. An old video of Kangana Ranaut discussing the consequences of showcasing problematic characters in movies has resurfaced amidst the ongoing controversy. The video, originally from an episode of Aamir Khan’s popular TV show Satyamev Jayate, is gaining traction on the internet.
Kangana Ranaut Advocates Consequences in Dark Cinema
Expressing her perspective, Kangana Ranaut emphasises the importance of not avoiding dark cinema or depicting reality in films. She contends that showcasing the consequences of such narratives is crucial – how they impact both the girl and her future, as well as the boy. According to her, a happy ending cannot be justified in such scenarios.
Highlighting the impact, Kangana emphasized that individuals of this mindset start believing that actions of film heroes draw inspiration from them. She pointed out, “As they grow up, these boys engage in ragging and harassment, affecting not only girls but everyone, including their parents. They become antisocial, causing problems for everyone. Believing that movie characters justify their behavior, they even emulate the characters by wearing similar attire, convinced that the heroes are inspired by them.”
