Teji Bachchan was highly respected by Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi once praised Teji Bachchan in an interview from 1985. She said Teji Bachchan was like her mother and taught her a lot. She stated: “I came to learn a lot from them. Teji aunty is my second… no, my third mother (after her own mother and mother-in-law Indira Gandhi).”
