Angelina Jolie Tilt-Shifts Focus To Syria Amid Divorce Finalisation: ‘Over 17 Mn Need Aid’
Angelina Jolie, renowned actress and humanitarian, took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday to share a powerful message highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria. The post comes just days after Jolie concluded her eight-year-long divorce battle with Brad Pitt, shifting the narrative from her personal struggles to global advocacy.
In her post, Jolie shared an image from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) depicting a war-torn Syria. Alongside the photo, she wrote, “Syria: over 17 million people in need of aid. Syria has been decimated by almost 14 years of conflict, displacement, and economic deterioration. While the recent change in government brings about a chance of a fresh start, millions still need help, and critical needs continue to be unmet.”
Jolie has long been an advocate for humanitarian causes, focusing on conservation, education, and women’s rights. As a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), she has spent years championing the rights of displaced people worldwide. Her collaboration with the NRC underscores her dedication to aiding vulnerable populations in regions like Jordan and Yemen.
The Instagram post marked Jolie’s first public statement since the conclusion of her highly publicized legal feud with Pitt. Her lawyer, James Simone, confirmed to PEOPLE, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family.”
While the divorce proceedings are finalized, the former couple’s legal battle over their French winery, Château Miraval, remains unresolved. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago,” Simone added. “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, share six children: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Vivienne and Knox (16). The two met in 2005 on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and married in 2014 before Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.
As the legal battles wane, Jolie continues to redirect public focus toward critical global issues, using her platform to amplify the voices of those in need.
