Music icon AR Rahman and bassist Mohini Dey both announced the end of their respective marriages on the same day, sparking speculation about a possible connection. However, Rahman’s legal representative has categorically denied any link between the two incidents, calling the timing coincidental.

Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, revealed their decision to part ways after 29 years of marriage on Tuesday evening, citing “significant emotional strain.” Around the same time, Mohini Dey, a longtime collaborator of Rahman, announced her separation from her musician husband, Mark Hartsuch, in a joint statement shared on Instagram.

Lawyer Denies Speculations

Rahman and Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, addressed the rumors in an interview with Republic TV, emphasizing that the two separations are unrelated. “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision on their own,” Shah said.

She further clarified that Rahman and Saira’s split is amicable and free of financial disputes at this stage. “Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage,” Shah added.

Mohini Dey’s Statement

Mohini Dey, 29, who has performed with Rahman in over 40 shows worldwide, also took to Instagram to announce the end of her marriage. In a joint statement with her husband, she wrote, “The big thing we want to wish is love to everyone out there in the world. We appreciate your support in all of the ways you have given it to us. Please honor the decision we have made by being positive towards us at this time and respecting our privacy. We would appreciate no judgments.”

Despite the proximity of the announcements, Vandana Shah reiterated that there was no overlap or connection between the two situations.

Public Reaction

The simultaneous announcements led to widespread speculation online, with fans and media drawing parallels between the two separations. While Rahman’s poetic social media post about his divorce and Dey’s measured statement fueled curiosity, both parties have urged the public to respect their privacy.

As of now, neither Rahman nor Dey has commented further on the matter, with their representatives standing firm on the claim that the divorces are unrelated.
