Arijit Singh Joins Protest Against Kolkata Rape-Murder Case, Releases Song ‘Aar Kobe’ In Solidarity

Renowned singer Arijit Singh has added his voice to the growing chorus of support for the ongoing protests in Kolkata, following the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Singh released a poignant new Bengali song titled “Aar Kobe” on his official YouTube channel, aimed at raising awareness and seeking justice for the victim.

The song’s video prominently features an image of a hand, symbolising the demand for justice and highlighting the gravity of the incident. Alongside the release, Singh shared a heartfelt note explaining the significance of the song. He wrote, “On 9th August 2024, a tragedy struck the heart of Kolkata, shaking the nation. The brutal murder of a young trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College has ignited widespread protests across India. This song serves as a cry for justice, a lament for countless women who suffer in silence, and a call for systemic change.”

Singh further elaborated on the song’s purpose, stating, “This is not merely a protest song—it is a call to action. It underscores that our fight for women’s safety and dignity is ongoing. As we sing, we honor the tireless efforts of those on the frontlines—our doctors, journalists, and students—who deserve not only our respect but our protection.”

The horrific incident involved the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor earlier this month. Since then, a series of protests by doctors and students have erupted in Kolkata, demanding justice for the victim and calling for improvements in law and order in the state. Singh’s song contributes to the mounting public outcry, amplifying the call for justice and reform.
