On Wednesday, Republic TV’s Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami was arrested by Mumbai Police from his residence. He was arrested for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer. He was then taken to Raigad. According to a report in Mid-Day, Arnab Goswami was produced in Alibaug District Court where Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunayana S Pingale heard Raigad Crime Branch’s remand application in an abetment to suicide case. As per the latest reports, Arnab Goswami was asked to behave properly and maintain the court decorum by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, during the hearing.
The report states that Arnab Goswami claimed in court that police assaulted him during the time of the arrest. Further, one of the associates of Arnab asked if the proceeding could be telecasted live on Republic TV, however, the Chief Judicial Magistrate refused the demand saying that use of electronics is prohibited in court.
Later, when he again produced in court, he reportedly screamed at the door that he was being assaulted when an officer held his hand to take him to the witness box. He supposedly also shouted at everyone in court to maintain social distancing. As reported by Mid-Day, a senior lawyer named Sushil Patil, who was in court for another case, had to ask Arnab Goswami to maintain the court’s decorum. “He was so arrogant. He did not behave properly. I just reminded him that he was in the courtroom and not in his studio. Even the court asked him to behave,” said lawyer Patil to the portal. He even reportedly kept shouting ‘injury, injury’ in the court.
