Renowned singer Asha Bhosle recently expressed her concerns about the rising rates of divorce. In a conversation with Sri Sri Raviar on his YouTube channel, she pondered the changing dynamics of love and the diminishing sanctity of relationships.

She said, “I am a 90-year-old woman. I got married and had three kids. I’d take the kids to my mother’s house when things became difficult in my marriage, but I never filed for divorce. But nowadays, every month, I hear about divorces. Why is this happening?”

The Changing Landscape of Love:

As someone who has spent many years in the film industry, Asha Bhosle has witnessed countless individuals and their relationships. She marvelled at how the younger generation readily gives up on love, contrasting it to the steadfastness of her own time.

According to Bhosle, modern-day lovers mistake temporary attraction for genuine love. When the initial spark fades away, they hastily terminate their connections, fueled solely by their own desires.

The Burden of Motherhood:

Another point of concern for Asha Bhosle is the contemporary perception of motherhood as a burden: “No longer just for the impoverished but even for the middle-class and affluent people. Drawing from her personal experience of successfully juggling a singing career while raising three children, and now, grandchildren and great-grandchildren”, Asha Bhosle believes that today’s confused world views having kids as an added source of problems.

Asha Bhosle’s Past Life

Bhosle’s remarkable journey is like proof that motherhood can bring a lot of fulfilment even under challenging circumstances. You know what I mean, right? Well, the life of Asha Bhosle hasn’t been all roses. She got into an unfavourable marriage with Ganpatrao Bhosle, a man much older than her. Their relationship was really unhappy, causing her to leave with their two children while carrying their third child.

It was only in 1960, after 20 years, that they finally separated, and Asha found happiness again by marrying RD Burman. In an interview, Bhosle was all nostalgic about her failed first marriage, talking about the disapproval she got from her sister, Lata Didi, and how her family was so conservative about her career. Even with all the abuse and mistreatment she faced, Bhosle doesn’t really hold resentment, you know.

She mentioned, “I experienced abuse and mistreatment, and it reached a point where I was asked to leave while I was pregnant with my youngest son, Anand. I went back to my mother, sisters, and brother during that difficult time. I hold no grudges, and I don’t blame anyone. Looking back, I believe that if I hadn’t met Mr. Bhosle, I wouldn’t have been blessed with these three wonderful children, and life ultimately turned out fine.”
