‘Barbie’ Star Margot Robbie Finally Opens Up On Oscars Row: ‘Obviously, I Think…’

The ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig and actress Margot were not included in the individual Academy Award nominations this year.

At a SAG-AFTRA meeting this week, Margot Robbie, 33, reportedly discussed her Oscar rejection in public for the first time. Unexpectedly, the gifted actress—who portrayed the lead in the popular movie Barbie—did not receive a nomination for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category this year. Despite this setback, she said that she is not “sad” about it.

“When you know you’re this blessed, there’s no way to feel sad,” she remarked during the Variety conversation. Greta Gerwig, the filmmaker of Barbie, was not nominated for Best Filmmaker, which saddened her even more, she said.

“I think Greta should be nominated as a director,” she declared. “What she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing. What she pulled off, it is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”

Barbie received eight nominations despite Margot and Greta not receiving any individual Oscar honours; Margot is “beyond ecstatic” with this. Best film, adapted screenplay, costume design, production design, supporting actor (Ryan Gosling), supporting actress (America Ferrera), and two original song nominations are among the categories for which there are nominees.

“Everyone getting the nods that they’ve had is just incredible, and the best picture nod.” Margot added, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”

Margot graciously said, “People’s reactions to the movie have been the biggest reward of this entire experience.”. She can’t think of a time when a movie had this effect on culture.
