In a recent interview, actor Ashnoor Kaur opened up about the grueling realities of being a child star in the television industry. The actor, who is currently a contestant on Bigg Boss 19, spoke about the insecurities she faced as a teenager and revealed a shocking story about starving herself to lose weight, which led her to faint on set.
Speaking to Hauterrfly, Ashnoor, now a young adult, said that she now works a strict 12-hour day, a luxury she didn’t have as a child. She recalled once working for 30 hours straight on the show Shobha Somnath Ki when she was just six years old. “I was so tired that I couldn’t function at all,” she said, adding that she had to take a nap in her vanity van while the crew waited.
The Unforgiving World of Television
Ashnoor isn’t the first television actor to speak out against the industry’s harsh working conditions. Radhika Madan and Shweta Tiwari have also shared similar experiences. In a podcast with Bharti Singh, Shweta said that she once worked for three days straight without sleep and would often work 72 hours a week.
Hiten Tejwani has also admitted to feeling guilty about taking breaks, saying that he has worked “non-stop for an entire month—sometimes more than 24 or even 48 hours straight without realising it.”
Actress Krystle D’Souza recalled times when she would faint from exhaustion and have to be given IV drips on set, while actor-politician Smriti Irani once revealed she was summoned to set a day after suffering a miscarriage and had to take medical proof with her to convince the producer it was not a “drama.”
