BITS Oasis 2k18, Another Year Of Unbelievable Fun & Memories!

Oasis 2018, themed ‘The Far Out Fest’, began with the Inauguration Ceremony, held in the Main Auditorium on 27th October. The ceremony began with performances by music and theatre groups on campus. These performances were followed by the lighting of the lamp and the introduction of the Chief Guest, Abhishek Chaubey (the director of Udta Punjab). Chaubey then went on to give a talk about being a director in the modern Hindi film industry.

In its 48th edition this year, Oasis offered a plethora of events, and visitors were only inhibited by their own enthusiasm. Events ranged from music to dance to poetry to fashion, and the fest promised something for everyone. Events like Rocktaves and Drums Duel offered a chance for enthusiasts to jam to their favourite tunes, as competing bands and participants took on each other in a battle of music. Razzmatazz and Street Dance were also major crowd pullers, and participants lit up the dance floor with a spectacular display of moves from various genres of dance. For avid quizzers, a multitude of quizzes were organised such as the Entertainment Quiz, the Oasis Quiz, the Music Quiz to name a few. Events like Fashion Parade, Street Play and Stage Play were also interesting as the theme-based performances proved to be a treat to watch. For Just-A-Minute enthusiasts, BLAB was also organised, the finals of which took place in front of a jam-packed auditorium.

The fest also had a Film Festival, the first of its kind to be held, on all four days of the fest. The aim of the festival was to nurture, encourage, and inspire cinema and to introduce it to the youth. The festival proved to be a success with lots of attendance for movie screenings, talks, and competitions. A Food Festival was also part of this Oasis, with culinary wars and momo-eating competitions.

Pulling away from the cultural events for a bit, the ‘Far out Fest’also included events like Treasure Hunt, Mr and Ms Oasis, Beg Borrow Steal, and Escape Room for all to enjoy. Apart from events that went on round the clock, BITSians and participants got a chance to enjoy concerts and shows by professional artists. The English Prof Show featured a performance by Guthrie Govan, the prodigal electric guitarist from England. He was joined by MohiniDey on the bass guitar, and Gino Banks, from the band ‘Nexus’, at the drums. The Hindi Prof Show had its own set of impressive headliners, as the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performed their hit songs live, during Oasis. The Classical Prof Show featured the fusion band IndoSoul, who highlighted the beauty and intricacies of classical music through their songs. The last day of Oasis ended with the comedy Prof Show, titled N2O. Well-known stand-up artists, Abhishek Upmanyu and Jaspreet Singh, amused the audience with their relatable jokes, ending Oasis 2018 with a bang.
