‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has sparked outrage for its depiction of toxic masculinity and misogynistic treatment of women. From its announcement till the tenth day following its release, Film has been rousing the Bollywood columns for its content.
Among several problematic scenes in the movie ‘Animal’, one that is being talked about a lot is Bobby Deol’s marital rape scene with Mansi Taxak, who played his third wife in the film. In his recent interview, Bobby narrated his experience shooting the rape scene. He stated that from the time he heard about Abrar, he knew that there was so much he could do with it without even speaking a word. He believes that playing a mute character gave his character some kind of energy. “It just brought something out in me”, he said.
He continued that he felt safe working with Sandeep Ready Vanga while he shot the scene with Mansi. He narrated, “When I was performing, I had no inhibitions. I was just portraying this character, who’s like an evil man, and this is how he treats his women; this is how he is. And that’s how I portrayed it.”
Recently, Mansi Taxak also deafened the scene, saying, “That was an apt way to establish Bobby’s character and to show the audience that they can expect the villain to be worse than Ranbir Kapoor’s character.” After the successful release of the film, Mansi had put up a moving post on Instagram for Bobby Deol about how he made sure she was comfortable. Her post read, “@iambobbydeol sir you truly are a legend. You made me so comfortable on set that it became so easy to share screen space with you. You are not only a great actor but an even better human being. Sir, you Very well deserve the title ‘Lord Bobby’”.
