‘Bollywood Often Prioritizes Star Power Over Authentic Storytelling’ Anurag Kashyap Cites The Reason Why South Industry Is Successful

Director and actor Anurag Kashyap is often in the news headlines for one or the other thing. Sometimes he talks about the entertainment industry while sometimes about his personal opinion on politics. Now, he has shared his views on the emphasis on star power in Bollywood. Anurag often expresses his opinion on sensitive issues very candidly. He said that this is a major reason why South Indian film industries are performing better than Bollywood. Kashyap praised the recently released films, saying that Bollywood often prioritizes star power over authentic storytelling.

According to some media reports, Anurag Kashyap praised the Fahadh Fazil starrer ‘Avesham’ and said that the makers of the film were courageous in casting three influential people in important roles. He further said that in Bollywood, producers and directors fill these roles with big stars, giving more emphasis on star power rather than telling a real story because of which most of the films fail at doing good.

Anurag Kashyap said that Bollywood often works on repetitive formulas, but extraordinary films can be made when you step out of the box. Anurag praised last year’s films ’12th Fail’ and ‘Lapataa Ladies’, saying that originality is the key to their success and therefore it worked really well. He also praised the action drama film ‘Kill’.

According to media reports, in an old interview, the filmmaker-actor had accused Bollywood of wasting money on unnecessary things. He had said, ‘A lot of the money that is spent does not go into making the film. This money is spent on decorations and crew of the movie.’ He stressed that filmmaking is a serious undertaking, that involves hard work and creativity, and not just a relaxing activity. He had said that a large part of the budget is spent on equipment and support staff which increases the budget of the film.
