Young actress Phoebe Dynevor of “Bridgerton” fame complained about the lack of suitable roles for actresses her age. She rose to soaring popularity after the Netflix series became a thunderous hit. Four years on, she still can’t fathom all the recognition, “What even was that?” she giggles, “I am still coming down from it.”
English Actress Dominating the Screen
As she thrust into Hollywood through the Netflix web series Turbo Fame, Phoebe Dynevor is now ruling the charts. She also earned her EE Bafta Rising Star award nomination, which is a public vote. Currently switching period flicks to more nuanced erotic and finance drama “Fairplay,” this British actress is now an industry favourite.
The film deals with modern sexual relationships, money, misogyny, male narcissism, workplace politics, and the glass ceiling. Dynevor plays the role of Emily, for which she thought she would beg the director Chloe Domont to cast her. But there was no such need, says Chloe, “When I met Phoebe for the first time, I had this immediate gut reaction that she was my Emily.”
Fairplay felt like every woman’s story to Phoebe Dynevor, “Women deal with all these things all the time. Did I draw from personal experience? Of course. Am I willing to go into them? Not really, but I drew on experiences I’ve had in the past.”
This Job Is Not for Recognition
Phoebe says no one becomes an actor for fame, but getting an award is worth the hard work. Netflix’s new psychological indie flick sees Dynevor delivering the required range to enhance her repertoire. Her next project is another thriller called “Inheritance” by Miramax, and she has officially exited from Bridgerton. However busy Phoebe is today, she is far from satisfied.
“I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but there are still, like, not that many parts going. There is such a space for male actors, and they’re all great. But for girls my age, there is still not enough room for us. It’s a really good time for older women which is amazing, but not a lot for the actresses that I know in my age bracket,” she vents.
Phoebe Dynevor the Director
Luckily, the Bridgerton star feels she has a solution to this problem. Phoebe Dynevor wants to direct and produce to redress the balance. She can’t promise when it will happen, but when it does, she wishes to create the material that is missing. “Now I’m in this funny place where it feels real, things feel like a possibility and that’s so exciting.”
