Following his highly publicised exits from the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe films and the Netflix show The Witcher, the actor has yet to announce his next major project. Despite Henry Cavill’s silence on his next career move, word on the street is that the versatile actor is being considered to play the iconic character James Bond in the next installment of the franchise.

In the midst of speculation about Henry Cavill’s involvement with the James Bond franchise, renowned filmmaker Martin Campbell, who directed the 2006 installment of the franchise, Casino Royal, revealed an unknown fact about the Daniel Craig starrer. Interestingly, the Man of Steel star auditioned for the lead role in Casino Royale while the producers were actively looking for a replacement for former Bond star Pierce Brosnan. However, Henry Cavill eventually lost the role to Craige because he was too young to play James Bond at the time.

In an interview with Express UK, director Martin Campbell discussed the possibility of Henry Cavill taking over as the new James Bond.

Cavill, who recently turned 40, is, according to the director, at the right age to play the iconic character. According to Campbell, the Argylle actor will be able to reprise his role in at least three more upcoming films in the franchise.

“Henry Cavill is 40; by the time he finishes the third film, he will be 50, and anything afterward will be two or three years per James Bond.” He’s in good shape, Henry, and he’s just a nice guy. His performance at the audition was admirable. However, the director said “But ironically, he was too young for the role”.
