Comedian Sunil Pal Says He Was Kidnapped Near Delhi, Shares Ordeal
Comedian and actor Sunil Pal has alleged that he was kidnapped while en route to an event in Haridwar. According to Pal, he was lured to the outskirts of Delhi under the pretext of attending a performance. The organizers had even transferred an advance payment to confirm the deal. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the comedian stopped for snacks during the journey.
Pal claims that a man, who posed as a fan, suddenly attacked him and forced him into a car. He was then blindfolded and driven to a remote location where multiple individuals were waiting. According to Pal, his captors demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh for his release.
Speaking about the ordeal, Pal explained that when he told the kidnappers he did not have the demanded amount or his debit card on him, the group began negotiating and looking for alternative ways to secure the ransom. “They took possession of my phone but allowed me to use it to reach out to friends and arrange for the funds,” he shared in an audio statement with The Indian Express.
Pal added that after approximately Rs 7.5 lakh was gathered, he was released the following day. Surprisingly, the kidnappers even provided him with Rs 20,000 to help with his travel expenses back home. Despite his release, Pal stated that the traumatic incident has had a lasting effect on his mental health.
Initially, Pal did not intend to speak publicly about the kidnapping, but his wife had already contacted the authorities. This prompted him to share his account of the harrowing experience. He also claimed that his captors erased all call records from his phone and destroyed any evidence that could have led to their identification. Additionally, they allegedly obtained personal details about his family, causing Pal to worry for their safety.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, although the authenticity of Pal’s claims has yet to be confirmed. The comedian returned home to Mumbai on Wednesday, December 4, and has since been reunited with his family. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover more details about the incident.
