41,383 new coronavirus cases and 507 deaths were reported in India on 22nd July, Thursday.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given a warning about the approach of a third wave coming in India; this wave is mostly driven by the Delta variant of SARS-COV-2, which was first reported in India. 

The Union health ministry has said that the fall in the covid-19 cases in India has slowed down the covid-19 situation remains worrisome in several states of India.

ICMR has stated will help the nation by August end but it will be of less intensity than the second wave’ The ICMR, in a study called, `Plausibility of the third wave of Covid-19 in India: A mathematical modeling-based analysis,` has elaborated reasons that could lead to the third wave in the country.

 

7 states of India that are at high risk of becoming hotspots and spreading the virus all over the country are Kerala, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, and Manipur. Kerala has the highest number of positive cases coming which is 17,481 followed by Maharashtra with 8,159 positive cases.

Since January 16, the start of the vaccination drive more than 415 million vaccine doses have been administered across the country. India is using three vaccines – the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab, commonly known as Covishield; Covaxin by Indian firm Bharat Biotech; and Russian-made Sputnik V. It’s currently vaccinating around four million people every day, but it needs to give about eight to nine million jabs a day to vaccinate everyone eligible by the end of this year.

 

The Centre and opposition leaders have engaged in a squabble after the former claimed that there have been no deaths due to lack of oxygen reported by states and Union Territories during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
