Dalljiet Kaur ‘Lived In Denial’ After Divorce With Shalin Bhanot: ‘I Wish I’d Have Gotten To Know More About Him’

Actress Dalljiet Kaur made headlines throughout 2024 when her second marriage to Kenya-based Nikhil Patel ended abruptly after just ten months. Before her marriage to Nikhil in 2023, Dalljiet was married to actor Shalin Bhanot, with whom she shares a son, Jaydon. Their marriage ended in 2015 after Dalljiet accused Shalin of domestic violence. Recently, in a candid interview on SCREEN’s Dear Me, Dalljiet opened up about the aftermath of her divorce from Shalin, revealing her emotional journey and struggles.

Reflecting on her early days with Shalin, Dalljiet shared how their love story unfolded. “Shalin and I did Kul Vadhu, and then Nach Baliye. When we won Nach Baliye, it became very obvious that we were a couple. We were obviously in love, so it was understood that we would get married to each other,” she recalled. However, she admitted that their relationship lacked the time to truly get to know each other. “I was working on two shows when I met Shalin, so we would barely meet for an hour. I wish I would have gotten to know more about him, then these things wouldn’t have happened,” she said.

The end of her first marriage left Dalljiet heartbroken and wary of relationships. “I was scared to be in a relationship for 9 years, and I missed that happy family life for that long,” she explained. The emotional toll of the divorce, especially with a young child, was immense. “The word ‘divorce’ would not go down well with me; I would just break down and keep crying. Jaydon was an infant; it was not easy at all,” Dalljiet admitted. During this time, she was reluctant to even consider dating, as she was still mentally and emotionally tied to her past.

When asked about Shalin’s involvement in Jaydon’s life after their separation, Dalljiet revealed a strained relationship. “Shalin was around in those 9 years, but he didn’t take care of or make decisions for Jaydon. He would meet him occasionally, and I thought it was healthy for Jaydon to see him. But today, if you ask Shalin how old is Jaydon, he wouldn’t know,” Dalljiet shared.

She also spoke about how Jaydon’s longing for a father figure influenced her decision to remarry. “Jaydon was craving for a dad. He would see his friends with their dads, especially on Father’s Day, and he wanted that,” Dalljiet said. Although her second marriage didn’t last, she felt a sense of failure as she watched her son struggle. “It was a nightmare seeing Jaydon go through what he did. I protected him for 9 years, but this happened. It felt like I failed. No child deserves this,” she added.

As she focuses on rebuilding her life, Dalljiet remains committed to supporting her son through this challenging period. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Shalin Bhanot may be dating Bigg Boss 18 contestant Eisha Singh.
