Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh recently sparked a flurry of reactions among fans after expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of proper infrastructure for live concerts in India. During his December 14 performance in Chandigarh, he had remarked that he would refrain from performing in India until these issues were addressed. However, the singer has since clarified that his comments were misinterpreted.
On Tuesday, Diljit took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a clarification. He reposted a tweet claiming, “BIG NEWS: Diljit Dosanjh announces he won’t do shows in India due to poor concert infrastructure,” and dismissed the claim. “Nope… I said CHD ch Venue di Prob. C (I said the problem was with the venue in Chandigarh),” he clarified.
Diljit further explained, “So… jab tak sahi venue nhi mil jata, mai tab tak CHD mai next show plan nhi karunga (Until I find the right venue in Chandigarh, I won’t plan another performance in the city). That’s it.” However, the post was deleted within minutes, leaving fans speculating about the singer’s stance.
What Happened in Chandigarh
During the Chandigarh concert, Diljit paused mid-performance to highlight the inadequacies of concert infrastructure. In videos circulating on social media, he is heard saying in Punjabi, “Here, we don’t have the infrastructure for live shows. This generates significant revenue and provides employment to many people. I’ll try next time to ensure the stage is in the center so you can be all around it. Until this happens, I won’t do shows in India.”
Despite the controversy, Diljit dedicated his Dil-Luminati concert to Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju, recently crowned International Chess Federation (FIDE) World Champion. The event also faced scrutiny from the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR), which advised Diljit to avoid alcohol-themed songs during his performance.
India Tour Continues
The Dil-Luminati Tour marks Diljit’s return to Indian stages after touring the US, Canada, and Europe. His India leg kicked off on October 26 in Delhi, followed by sold-out shows in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Fans have eagerly embraced his performances, which cement his status as an international icon. The tour will conclude in Guwahati on December 29.
While Diljit’s remarks have drawn attention to concert infrastructure in India, fans remain hopeful that the star’s concerns will pave the way for better venues in the future.
