Diljit Dosanjh Responds To Telangana Government Ban On Alcohol-Drug Songs: ‘I Won’t Leave’

Punjabi singer and global sensation Diljit Dosanjh, currently touring India with his Dil-Luminati concert series, found himself embroiled in controversy during his recent Hyderabad performance. The Telangana government issued a legal notice to the singer hours before his concert on Friday, warning him against performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence.

The notice, prompted by a complaint from a Chandigarh resident, specifically mentioned songs like Panch Tara and Patiala Peg, alleging that Dosanjh had previously performed such tracks at a New Delhi concert. It also advised the organisers to ensure children were not involved in the show, citing safety concerns.

Despite the legal notice, Dosanjh took the controversy in stride. During his Hyderabad performance, he responded with a witty on-stage remark that has since gone viral. Sharing a video of the moment on Instagram, he addressed what he perceived as double standards. “If an artist from abroad comes, they can sing whatever they want, but when it’s an Indian artist, you interfere. But let me tell you, I am Dosanjhawala, I won’t leave,” he said, tweaking the lyrics mid-performance to address the issue.

The singer’s remarks have sparked debates on social media, with fans and critics alike weighing in on the government’s intervention and Dosanjh’s pointed response. Many praised his unapologetic stance, while others questioned the appropriateness of the government’s notice.

Meanwhile, Diljit continues his Dil-Luminati tour, which has already seen packed venues in multiple cities. Upcoming concerts include performances in Ahmedabad on November 17, Lucknow on November 22, Pune on November 24, and Kolkata on November 30. In December, he will take the stage in Bengaluru, Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati, wrapping up what has been a highly anticipated tour.

Known for his vibrant stage presence and a string of hit songs, including Do You Know and Lover, Diljit has become a household name, not just in India but among Punjabi music fans globally. The Hyderabad episode has only amplified attention around his tour, with many eagerly awaiting how the singer will address future performances amid the heightened scrutiny.
