Diljit’s Struggle With Hindi Songs
In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, Diljit opened up about his difficulties in creating Hindi songs. He stated,
”It’s not like I am singing Hindi songs and the whole of India is listening to me. I always spoke Punjabi, but due to Hindi films, I started talking in Hindi. I cannot make Hindi songs by myself.”
This statement reflects the challenges regional artists face when they try to make a mark in the mainstream industry.
The Making Of “Naina”
Creating the song “Naina” was a unique journey for Diljit. The song came into existence due to the persistent efforts of Rhea Kapoor, the producer of “Crew”. Diljit revealed,
”I cannot make Hindi songs. I told her I could not make songs for Bollywood, I didn’t know how to do it, but she pursued me for a year. That time I was working on an album and she would ask me every 10 days where was the song. It was she who made that song through me”.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
It was recently reported that Dosanjh would be making his television debut on Jimmy Fallon’s show. When asked why he is representing Punjab on the international scene rather than India, Diljit said:
”Punjab is a small part of India, and I come from a very small state where regional music is made. Earlier regional music was not that grand, but now it is global. So that feeling you have when you come from a small town is different. Punjab is a small part of India, and I come from a very small state where regional music is made.
