While talking about the cast choices in the film Josh, he said, ‘My idea was that both characters are equally important… I always had Shah Rukh in mind for the role of Max. And I intended to cast Aamir in the role of Chandrachur Singh. When I narrated the story to Aamir, he assumed that he was playing Max. Then, when I told Shah Rukh, he was very excited. When I asked him, ‘Shahrukh, are you doing the film or not?’, he said I will not do this because I know you are taking Aamir in it.”

Mansoor also said that the controversy did not end there, he was also going to cast Kajol in the film but failed at that too. Mansoor Khan said that when he narrated the story of the film to Kajol, she got up and started leaving. On this Mansoor asked if she would do the film, Kajol said no, she would like to play the character of Max. After this, she left. He then thought of signing beauty queen Aishwarya Rai in the film and said that Aishwarya never complained about her role or the film nor did she ask where the camera should be.
