Actress Kangana Ranaut made waves when she declined to work with animal filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, even though the latter had said that he would have liked to. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kanan, Vanga lauded Ranaut’s roles in films such as Tanu Weds Manu and Queen.
Ranaut, however, graciously refused his offer and stated that she would prefer not to collaborate with him on any further projects.
Kangana’s stand
Ranaut posted a video of Vanga’s interview. It showed his appreciation for her work on her official X account. Ranaut acknowledged his admiration for her, but she was quite clear that she didn’t want him to give her any jobs. She discussed the difference between review and criticism in art in a Hindi statement, thanking Vanga for his polite manner but adamantly denying any professional cooperation.
Ranaut’s reluctance to collaborate with Vanga coincides with continuing concerns about ‘Animal’. A segment of the public criticized the movie, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor, for what they saw to be an objectification of women and a portrayal of masculine supremacy. The movie debuted in theatres on December 1, 2023, and on January 26, 2024, it had its over-the-top (OTT) premiere on Netflix.
Animal Controversy
‘Animal’ movie attracts controversy for its misogynistic themes. It glorifies toxic masculinity and violence. The way the male lead in the movie treats the female characters dehumanizes them and trivializes significant situations.
The popularity of Animal is indicative of a greater trend in Indian films, where male characters are portrayed as hyper-violent demigods, raising questions about how gender dynamics and conventional ideas of masculinity are portrayed.
More on the Work Front
Moving to the professional front, Vanga has a bunch of anticipated projects in his bag, including the sequel to Animal, titled Animal Park, and a cop-drama with Prabhas titled Spirit.
Kangana is waiting for the release of her upcoming movie, Emergency, in the interim. Released on June 14, the period drama is based on the Indian Emergency under the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s administration.
