Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut worked on the Anurag Basu-directed movie from 2006. It was Kangana’s first Bollywood film.
Showtime, Emraan Hashmi’s latest web series that centres on nepotism in the film business, is about to be released. In a recent interview, Emraan opened up on the debate around nepotism that actor Kangana Ranaut started a few years ago with Dainik Bhaskar. Emraan stated that he was surprised by what Kangana had said.
Emraan on Kangana
In the interview, Emraan revealed that he likes Kangana a lot personally as an artist. Maybe she might have had some bad experiences in the film industry. He has worked with her on Gangster. In that film, Kangana had a more important lead role than Emraan. That is why she got exposure to that film.
He later added, “So, I don’t think that only the ones favoring nepotism get the chance. However, Kangana might have her own opinion, but putting the blame on the entire industry is wrong. There might be a few. Not all are drug addicts in the industry.”

Perception of the Industry
During the conversation, when Emraan was asked about the perception of the industry after the pandemic, he said, “There was a lot of negativity towards the industry after COVID, and even after the Sushant Singh Rajput episode, and the Boycott Bollywood trend for that matter. There was a resentment, where the entertainment industry was focused singularly.”
A little flashback
For those who don’t know, it was in 2016, when Kangana Ranaut called director-producer Karan Johar the ‘flagbearer of nepotism’ and ‘movie mafia’. It accused him of giving her a tough time professionally, during one of the episodes of Koffee With Karan. Almost eight years later, a web series called Showtime has been made, which is also built around the premises of nepotism in the industry.
