The Super Singh of Bollywood

Diljit Dosanjh has been making waves in Bollywood ever since he has stepped in. Hailing from Dosanjh Kalan, Jalandhar, Punjab, Diljit has surely come a long way. Diljit’s fame was once restricted to the state of Punjab and no one really knew that he would be able to carve such a special place for himself in the Bollywood industry.

Punjabi superstar, Diljit’s journey began with his first album Ishq da Uda Ada in 2004 but he rose to fame with his track ‘Lakk 28 Kudi Da’. He brought in a new slang with his t-shirt saying ‘Urban Pendu’ in his super hit single Proper Patola and it went viral like anything. His other singles Goliyan ft. Yo Yo Honey Singh, Patiala Peg, 5 taara, Do You Know and many more make everyone shake a leg at parties today.

Meanwhile, Diljit also stepped into mainstream Punjabi movies. With movies like Jatt and Juliet, Sardaarji, Punjab 1984 and Ambarsariya, Diljit managed to leave the audience crazy for him. Also, Diljit gave his voice to a couple of Hindi movie songs for movies like Tere Naal Love Hogaya, Mere Dad Ki Maruti and Singh is Bling. But who knew that he would make his mark in Hindi cinema as an actor.

2016 changed everything for Diljit as he starred in Udta Punjab, a movie that generated a lot of controversy but brought along stardom of another level for the Punjabi singing sensation. His performance in the movie was highly appreciated and his song Ikk Kudi got an amazing response from the masses.

But as he stepped into Hindi cinema, many people told him that he would be able to do limited roles because of wearing a turban. However, he broke all stereotypes as he starred in Udta Punjab and got a huge applaud for his spectacular performance. He is bit of a private person and we have never had much information about his personal life. However, Diljit has always been close to his fans and never forgets thanking them on any of his achievements. Never ever has he showed an ounce of stardom and this further adds to the beauty of his soul.

Diljit soon started working for his next project Phillauri opposite Anushka Sharma. Though the movie was not a very big hit at the box office, it managed to extend Diljit’s popularity all over. Now he headed back to Punjabi cinema for his next project Super Singh opposite Sonam Bajwa. Super Singh is Punjabi cinema’s first super hero film and produced under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and Brat Films. Super Singh is an action comedy film. The movie revolves around the character of Diljit whose life changes as he unknowingly gets super powers. It would be an interesting to see these powers help the character change everything around him.

Recently, Diljit was in Delhi to promote his upcoming movie Super Singh and we could see the maddening crowd of the city making every possible effort to have a glimpse of him. During the media interaction in Delhi, we had a word with Diljit. Here is what he had to say:

WE: What if you had super powers in real life?

Diljit: (laughs) I would eat as much as I can and then brush my hands to shed off all of it.

WE: What makes you say ‘yes’ to a script? Do you look for something special in a project?

Diljit: No, nothing like that I look for something before signing a project. I am a very emotional person. If I like anything the director says, I say ‘yes’ to it.

WE: How has been your Bollywood experience? How do you look forward to your onward journey in Bollywood?

Diljit: I feel I don’t deserve this much love from Bollywood but it feels great to be a part of it now. I think my journey would be great ahead also.

WE: Please share about your upcoming projects in Bollywood.

Diljit: My upcoming work will be a biopic. However, I can’t reveal much about it at the moment. But anyhow I am scared because I have never done anything like that in my life. It is the first role I am preparing for.
