A source close to the matter said, ‘The sequel has to be planned in any case, no matter what the fate of Kalki is. Now that it has proved to be a money-maker beyond anything, the makers felt the next part should be expedited. It has been revealed that Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan will be seen again in the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD but Deepika will be missing from it.’

The source further said, ‘At the moment it is not very clear whether Deepika Padukone will be a part of Kalki 2898 AD sequel or not. Many sources have informed me that the makers are willing to wait till the completion of Deepika’s maternity leave. But now with the demand for a sequel increasing with the growing success of the first film, the makers may decide to replace Deepika with someone else in the second part.’
