Farmers’ Protest The Last Nail In Modi Government’s Coffin?

Farmers are agitated by the three new laws passed by the government and have decided to protest at Delhi borders. They’ve come with full preparation at the borders and are set to stay even for six months if required until the government doesn’t take back its orders. They are strictly against the removal of middlemen and the open market phenomenon that has been passed by the government. And like every other protest, the Modi government is mum. Like every other protest, the government says that people are misguided. They feel that the farmers are misguided and are not fully aware of the benefits that the new laws would offer. But certainly, they don’t have what’s required to come forward and explain the benefits to the aggrieved farmers. And if the same continues, it is certain that more and more people will go against the government and its partners with the big brands to gain its profits without paying heed to the common man.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost his trust amongst the common people with the demonetization of Rs 500 and 1000 notes. Then he received a lot of backlashes when he came with NRC and CAA laws towards the end of last year.  Brutal and violent protests were seen across the country due to this law. This series of protests have led the Modi led government on the verge of seeing its downfall with the ongoing farmers’ protest. During his recent visit to Varanasi, Modi said that farmer should trust his government and their intentions. “I want to tell my farmer brothers and sisters from the sacred ghats of the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi) that our intention is as pious as the water of Maa Ganga (the holy river Ganga),” he said as he admitted that farmers are apprehensive about the new laws.

Ever since the Modi-led government came to power in 2014, it has failed to deliver on a range of its pre-election promises and flagship schemes across the spectrum. This lack of trust has led to many protests across the country since BJP came to power.

The ongoing farmers’ protest is not just a month old it has been going since June when the bills were passed in parliament. They have been protesting in their states or villages hoping that the government will do something for them. After getting no help and response from the government, the pent up anger in the helpless farmers led to the decision of Chalo Delhi protest. They decided to go to Delhi and protest to get the laws revoked.

These farmers are in no mood to bow down and have warned the government to get ready for the consequences if their demands will not get fulfilled. However, there have been many meetings between the farmers organizations and the government but nothing fruitful has come out till now.

Earlier, we had seen how these protests could cost so much to the government. Anna Hazare’s movement is the biggest example of the same which had uprooted the Congress government and gave birth to an all-new government that is ruling the center yet. Now, it’s high time for the Modi government to do something as it can lead to the downfall of BJP.
