Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who recently made his web series debut with IC814: Kandahar Hijack, has opened up about his long-standing silence with Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn. Despite directing Devgn in Cash nearly two decades ago, Sinha revealed that the two have not spoken since the film’s release. However, he clarified that there has never been any confrontation or fallout between them.

In an interview with Lallantop, Sinha expressed his confusion over the lack of communication. “We have never fought. He just doesn’t speak to me, and I have no idea why,” he said. “Since the making of Cash, we haven’t even met for me to tell you that he ignored me or anything. So maybe it’s just me overthinking. However, I did text him a couple of times and never received a response, so I told myself that maybe he missed my message. But it’s been about 18 years since we have spoken.”

The Ra.One director speculated that his public comments on political matters might have contributed to the distance. “In between, I did comment on people’s political views, so I must have said something to him too. But he was not the only person I spoke about—I have said things to various people, yet I still maintain good relations with them all,” he explained. Despite the lack of communication, Sinha maintained his admiration for Devgn. “I respect him as an actor and an individual,” he added.

Sinha also praised Devgn’s personality, emphasizing his loyalty as a friend. “Ajay was among my favourite actors. I loved him both as an actor and an individual. He is fun to be with. He is like ‘yaaro ka yaar’—always the first one to be there for a friend in need,” he said.

Although their communication has remained absent for nearly two decades, Sinha’s words indicate that there is no animosity between them. Whether the two Bollywood stalwarts will reconnect in the future remains to be seen.
