Sharing a post on social media, Faruqui had said, “The hate won, the artist lost. I was put in jail for a joke I never did. My shows were canceled, it’s unfair.” We also had the censor certificate of the show, having the certificate only means that there is nothing wrong with the show. Not only this, 12 shows have been canceled in the last two months. Because people were threatening us that he would harm the venue and the public.

Earlier on January 1, he was arrested for allegedly making objectionable remarks about Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show on New Year’s Day in Indore. Soon after the show, BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur’s son Aklavya Laxman Singh Gaur complained to Munawar Faruqui and others. Faruqui was then arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 295-A, which deals with willful and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiments of any class.
