Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has proudly put India on the world map with her dedication and talent. After giving multiple hits to Indian Cinemas, she tried and succeeded with her Hollywood innings too. Recently, Chopra became one of the only four Indians to register her name in the list of BBC’s ‘100 Women’ this year.
In a latest interview, Priyanka talked about how difficult it was to reach at par with her male counterparts in the business. She said that it was not always like this and there were times when she was not paid equal to the male lead of her films.
“I’ve never had pay parity in Bollywood. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor. It’s (the pay gap) large, substantially large. And so many women still deal with that. I’m sure I will too if I worked with a male co-actor now in Bollywood,” she said. “My generation of female actors have definitely asked (for equal pay). We’ve asked, but we’ve not got it,” stated the Barfi actress.
Priyanka also opened up on Bollywood actors enjoying special privileges on film sets and female actors getting treated unfairly in her early days. She revealed that it seemed absolutely normal to her to sit for hours and wait for the male co-actor to show up on the sets.
For the unknown, Priyanka Chopra has worked with almost all the A-list actors of Hindi film industry namely Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. She is next coming up with Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa alongside Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. On Hollywood front, Priyanka has Citadel and Love Again in her kitty.
