In a turn of events that has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood industry, Sunita Ahuja, wife of veteran actor Govinda, has reportedly filed for divorce after 38 years of marriage. The petition was submitted at the Bandra Family Court, just after Sunita’s tearful appearance in a recent vlog, where she hinted at significant marital distress.
According to a report by Hauterrfly, Sunita’s divorce petition cites adultery, cruelty, and desertion as grounds for the dissolution of their marriage. The filing, made under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, comes amidst persistent rumours about the couple’s relationship. The court has reportedly issued a show cause notice to Govinda due to his repeated absence from proceedings, while Sunita has consistently attended hearings and counselling sessions since June 2025.
Sunita’s Emotional Vlog Adds Fuel to the Fire
Public speculation about the couple’s private life was reignited by a recent vlog featuring Sunita’s emotional visit to Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Temple. While there, she tearfully shared the temple’s significance, stating that she had prayed to the Goddess to marry Govinda and build a good life with him. She then cryptically added, “It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman. I love all three forms of the Goddess deeply. Whatever the situation, anyone who tries to break my family, Maa will not forgive them.”
This isn’t the first time Sunita has hinted at marital troubles. She previously revealed she had been celebrating her birthday alone for the past 12 years and that she and Govinda had been living separately due to his work commitments and “talkative nature.”
Conflicting Reports and Rumours
The divorce news has been met with conflicting statements from both sides. In February 2025, Govinda’s team confirmed that Sunita had filed for divorce six months earlier but insisted the couple had since reconciled. Sunita’s team, on the other hand, had previously denied any divorce plans.
The filing also comes amid unconfirmed reports of Govinda’s alleged closeness to a 30-year-old Marathi actress. However, a close family friend, Lalit Bindal, told News18 that the rumours are false, asserting that the couple is “going strong” and will remain together.
