Kal Penn, the Indian-origin American actor known for “Harold & Kumar” and “Designated Survivor”, recently visited the set of India’s iconic sitcom “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” in Mumbai. The long-running show, which first aired on July 28, 2008, is one of the most popular TV series in India, following the lives of residents in the fictional Gokuldham Society.
Kal Penn, whose real name is Kalpen Suresh Modi, shared his visit on Instagram with a series of pictures from the set. He expressed his gratitude to the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi, and the entire cast and crew for the warm welcome. “Looking at an apartment in Gokuldham Society with some new friends. Thanks to @officialasitkumarrmodi ji & the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fam for the set visit. Nicest cast & crew, I appreciate you showing me around!” he wrote in the caption.
Penn also shared an interesting trivia about the show, stating that “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” is one of the most-watched television programs worldwide, with over 40 million viewers per episode. With more than 4,300 episodes, it holds the title of India’s longest-running scripted TV show.
During his visit, Penn posed for photos with several cast members, including Dilip Joshi, Sunayana Fozdar, Mandar Chandwadkar, Munmun Dutta, Shyam Pathak, and others. “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” is based on the late humorist Tarak Mehta’s popular Gujarati column, “Duniya Ne Undha Chashmah”.
The show continues to entertain millions, becoming a cultural touchstone in India.
