‘Grief Has Its Own Journey’: Sandhya Mridul Opens Up On World Mental Health Day!

The past year has been tough for actor Sandhya Mridul personally as she admits to going through a phase of emotional breakdown. “Grief has its own journey,” said Mridul who is still recovering from the loss of her brother.

On World Mental Health Day, Mridul shared a note. She said, “A couple of years ago, I reached a point where I felt that I’m going to put it out there because there are a lot of people like me. They should know that I’m not perfect and always strong. I’m weak and I’m saying I’m breaking right now.”

The Tandav actor channelled her passion into journalism and writing poems some of which were even posted on social media. She mentioned, “I said I’m not mentally strong, I’m not feeling good, I’m feeling depressed, and I’m scared. This was during a little before the pandemic.”

While several actors shy away from talking about going through a sobriety phase, Mridul showed off the chinks in her armour on Instagram and admitted to seeing a therapist for help.

She said that she talked to a therapist. She talked to one a little bit before my brother (died). She developed some anxiety in 2020 (and) it got a little bit extreme. Mridul had a few panic attacks. She took therapy. But now she knows what to do with it. She said, “We have made it a taboo word.” It is like other diseases. Some have slipped discs, some have cervical problems and some have anxiety. “We all have to learn to work with it. Some days are not easy, very hard!” said she.

She further added that she is a very mentally aware person overall. She can see that some days are a struggle and days of more strength and that’s the only thing she will do right now. She can’t say that she is 100%. “When you’re alone you’re not okay, you’re not good, you’re struggling and it really hurts. But I’m working on it. I share feelings with many people who are not right. I’m glad to own that I’m not right,” said she.

Mridul concluded that she follows alternate medicines if she needs to. She highly recommends acupuncture. She meditates twice a day, talks to her therapist, and fills up pages in the morning. She is glad people are talking about mental health.
