Gulzar Got Grammy Award For The Song ‘Jai Ho’, One Night Changed His Personal Life Entirely.

Gulzar, known as the magician of words, is celebrating his 87th birthday today. Gulzar Sahab was born in Jhelum, Punjab, which is now in Pakistan. Gulzar’s real name is Sampoorn Singh Kalra, born on 18 August 1934 in a Sikh family. After partition, he had settled in Amritsar, but Gulzar did not feel like Amritsar and he went to Mumbai. Gulzar Kismat Chamki in Mumbai and became known as a famous poet, writer, lyricist, producer, and director. During his work in Bollywood, he met film actress Rakhi. Both of them also married each other but one night destroyed their lives forever. Know what is the story of that night?

Rakhi and Gulzar first met at a Bollywood party. It is said that seeing Rakhi, Gulzar fell in love with her at first sight. From here the process of a meeting between the two increased and both of them gave heart to each other. In the year 1973, both of them got married to each other. Gulzar did not like Rakhi working in films, due to which Rakhi distanced herself from films after marriage.

After marriage, Rakhi felt that her decision to leave films was wrong and she again tried to make a comeback in films. There used to be a fight between him and Gulzar about this. During all this tussle of relationships, Rakhi gave birth to daughter Meghna.

This anecdote is during the shooting of the 1975 film ‘Aandhi’. The shooting of the film was going on in Kashmir. During that time Rakhi was also with Gulzar. Gulzar was busy with his work and Rakhi used to stay alone in the room. One day when the unit party of the film ‘Aandhi’ was going on, the lead star of the film Sanjeev Kumar was trying to get close to actress Suchitra in an intoxicated state. This made Suchitra very angry. After this Gulzar was about to drop Suchitra in his room when he found Rakhi on the way. Rakhi got very angry seeing both of them together.

There was a fierce fight between Gulzar and Rakhi that night. Gulzar did not like Rakhi getting angry in front of everyone like this. Not only this, it is said that things got so bad that Gulzar beat Rakhi. Later Gulzar tried hard to persuade Rakhi but she did not agree. Angry Rakhi started living separately from Gulzar and signed Yash Chopra’s film ‘Kabhi Kabhi’. After doing Rakhi’s film, their paths parted forever. Despite their separation after some time of marriage, both of them never got divorced. Even today both live separately. His daughter Meghna Gulzar is a famous film producer. He has recently made films like ‘Raazi’ and ‘Chhapaak’.

Gulzar has directed famous and memorable films like ‘Aandhi’, ‘Mausam’, ‘Mirza Ghalib’. He still writes songs for many Bollywood films at this age. For his contribution, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004. Not only this, he has also received Filmfare 20 times and National Award 5 times. In 2010, he received a Grammy Award for the song ‘Jai Ho’ from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
